Psymbionic is the Dubstep / Glitch / Psychedelic project of John Burcham, also known as Arcturian Expedition (Downtempo), hailing from Austin, TX. Influenced by the likes of Heyoka, Ooah, Vibesquad, Bassnectar, ill.gates, Mimosa, and many more, his new moniker has been steadily gaining attention and speed since it’s start in the Summer of 2009, encompassing patrons of out of state shows and festivals with glitched out beats and psychedelic, whompy bass-lines.

This mixtape, his second exclusive release mix for the BwompBeats Music Blog is a juicy mix that is “1/3 purple crunk lovestep, 1/3 glitch hop, and 1/3 dubstep by our own Psymbionic. What starts off slow and sexy soon drops you into a heavy boomer of a mix that will make you swoon and/or grab your nuts. John has been honing his style and styling his sounds since coming onboard and has definitely dialed in a good one so far. The mix has a lot of primo stuff from a lot of upcoming producers, so check this one out.” – Bwomp Beats

The mix is composed of a stellar selection of the last month of releases by all the names that matter in bass movement (glitch/dub/crunk) as well as more than a handful of exclusive unreleased tracks. Included in these exclusives is “Melting You”, an unreleased track by NastyNasty that is featured in his Lazer Soul mix as well. Download this mix ASAP, you’re in for a real treat; Psymbionic knows what sounds good, and better yet he knows how to make a good mix!

Frequent-C (Mega-Post)

So it came to my attention that I made a critical error in my Mile High Sound Movement feature. Somehow I failed to mention new member Frequent-C aka Cody Yozipovic. This is not a slight oversight, Cody, yet another brilliant artist out of the Boulder, Colorado area, is not one to be overlooked. “As a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter stemming from a broad musical background, Frequent-C’s sound is not limited to only one genre. With heavy influences in jazz, hip-hop, and dub while incorporating live guitar, keyboards, and beat production in a live and studio setting, the music that resonates is a constantly evolving collective of different musical genres that makes each live performance different from the last.” – Frequent-C SoundCloud

In order to make up for forgetting Cody in my previous update, I am going to give you all a special treat straight from Frequent-C himself. Calling his unique and versatile style “Jazzstep”, cody incorporates all the beloved elements of glitch and dub while managing to maintain a more chilled-out jazzy feel. This unique blend makes for a style of music as comfortable in the headphones doing work as it is at a party on the dancefloor. As the body of artists producing electronic music increases rapidly, those shining stars with true musical talent beyond the ability to construct a simple track finally begin to emerge. Frequent-C, like all members of the awesome Mile High Sound Movement, is one of these musical shining stars.

For a great general overview of his style, check out his “Islands” Fall Promo Mix, it features some great originals, and gives you a good idea of what inspires Frequent-C.

iONiK: Subsynthesis 2010 Promo Mix

Another great up-and-coming DJ out of our very own Colorado. iONik (Ian Ker-Seymer) can most easily be placed in the Glitch-Hop genre, but, like everyone else worth listening to, his take on the genre is completely unique. His remixes don’t just change the tempo of a song or harshly juxtapose a familiar vocal with a new beat, he transforms songs into glitchy new tracks equally at home in headphones and on the dance floor. Be it his Originals or his Remixes, this Boulder DJ is releasing a lot of killer tracks.

For a great overview of his music and style check out his free 2010 SubSynthesis Promo Mix. (Big thank you to Ian for the Mix, Job well done man!)

Also, pay the Ionik SoundCloud a visit and download all of his free tracks, they are well worth the effort it takes to click the link!

Also, I figured out how to embed SoundCloud tracks into Tumblr. Hurray! These are some of my favorites:

Protohype, the collaborative project of Sean Farrell and Max Pote are defining a genre through their talented production. Moving directly into a new form of Dub Step, which they refer to as Dub Hop, Protohype has set the stage for many artists to come. Their new self defined genre is composed of a signature grinding dubby bumble-buzz combined with the frequent use of dirty hip-hop beats and samples.

Check out their Soundcloud, where you can get almost all of their music for free (they have 3 free albums). For a particularly tasty track, download Protohype’s “Memoirs”, it really captures the essence of the Dub-Hop sound. The bumble-buzz is as present as ever, and the hip-hop feel gets you dancing right away.

Urban Dictionary Definition of Protohype:

The process of leaking a prototype device to generate buzz about a product you don’t quite yet have ready for market to a friendly tech website who will promote the gizmo well before it’s ready to go.

—-“Gizmodo’s finding of that Apple iPhone 4G months before it’s released is clearly a case of protohype.”
