Invisible Allies (KilloWatts + Bluetech)

Invisible Allies is a collaboration between well-known West Coast downtempo aficionado Bluetech and Philadelphia electronic mastermind KiloWatts.  Both established with numerous releases and projects spanning various genres, the Invisible Allies collaboration is a meeting between two distinct and imaginative minds, each with acute musical sensibilities and signature aesthetics.

Exploring futuristic spacefunk, textural ambient, odd time signatures, complex harmonic developments, detailed digitalia and a sublime sense of the exotic, the first Invisible Allies EP “Hyperdimensional Animals” gives a first look into what promises to be an exciting and evolving conversation between two singular and eccentric producers.” – Invisible Allies

After listening to the EP, I can say for sure that it is not an album to miss. I frequently remark on my belief that the future of electronic music is in collaboration, and this album is a perfect example. A beautiful melding of the two unique styles yields an entirely different form of music new and as yet unheard of. “The EP features five tracks from Invisible Allies and five remixes from Bil Bless, The Great Mundane, Aligning Minds, Mr. Projectile, and Erothyme.  The EP can be purchased at, as well as on iTunes and all major online retailers.  Invisible Allies is set to hit the road for a huge US tour in February 2011 featuring a custom built, live A/V set.”

Check out the album at the Invisible Allies Bandcamp (streaming for free); if it suits your taste I highly recommend buying it to support both their individual careers as well as their collaborative effort. Hyperdimensional Animals takes great strides in eliminating the genre boundaries between lush melodic downtempo and intricate, organically evolving beats. I hope you all enjoy it nearly as much as I have!

Floatin’ Ocean: Atlantis EP!

The EP release is finally here, and this multi-featured artists has a secret to share with you all. The previously featured artists, Floatin’ Ocean, as will as Profresher and Billy Blacklight, are all in fact one multi-talented artist. Reluctant to constrain his creativity to one sound, Billy is constantly at working on his ever-expanding collection of side projects. Some might say that this strategy distracts you from your primary goal, but for Billy, his goal is to produce a wide variety of intricately nuanced and unique material. He has certainly far surpassed his goal so far!

Give the new Atlantis EP a listen at the Billy Blacklight BandCamp.

Here is a copy of the Title Track, Atlantis, to sample before downloading the EP, trust me, the album is well worth the $1!

Also of interest, Billy Blacklight has officially started a Kickstart Project in order to raise money for equipment for his upcoming tour. Check out the Billy Blacklight Kickstart Page to help support this artist. He has already raised $109 and needs to reach $500 by the beginning of January in order to reach his sponsorship goal. If you want to see this guy live, help him out by donating to his Kickstart or buying his album; a little bit goes a long way! To all those music lovers looking for an opportunity to give back after all those free downloads, this is the way to do it!

Check out all his Material on his various SoundClouds; sorry the secret is out Billy, but it will be for your own good!

Profresher aka Billy Blacklight is another highly prolific artist, this time not from Colorado but from Minnesota. His music could be classified as glitch, but is more accurately described as glitchy, downtempo, psycrunk-womp. Not that genre titles mean anything, I just hate to describe a sound as unique as Billy’s as merely “glitch”. Billy has been putting out tracks and albums like crazy, releasing “Zengurt”, his debut LP, in October, and yet another album, “Tea, Tunes, Tulips & Tantra” in November. If you enjoy the more experimental, melodic, downtempo side of bass-music, you are in for a real treat with Profresher. His style is in no way limited by this classification however, his music covers a wide array of musical variations while maintaining a characteristic sound. Get on the download folks, Billy Blacklight is one hell of a producer!

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, “Emancipator played his first live show in July 2009, opening for Bonobo at the Roseland Theater (cap. 1500). Since then, he’s toured with Bassnectar, STS9, Pretty Lights, drawn crowds at festivals like Trinumeral and Symbiosis, and closed out Sound Tribe Sector 9’s late night parties in Denver at the request of the band…Emancipator’s agile melodies layered over headnodic, immaculately-produced beats captivated fans across the internet and across the world.”

“His latest album “Safe In The Steep Cliffs” blends new instrumentation and organic samples with the signature Emancipator style of clean production, silky melodies and addictive drums. Dense layers of choirs, horns, American folk instruments such as the banjo and mandolin, violin and some distinct Asian influences make for a playful but refined album built out of intricate tracks listeners can enjoy on as many levels as they want. Dance to it, chill out to it, immerse your mind in it.” – Emancipator Homepage

Emancipator’s production is crisp and beautiful, a seamless meld of organic beats and instrumentation combined with beautiful downtempo melodies. While very unique and different from the music usually featured on this site, checking out Emancipator is an absolute must.

Shipwrek at Colorado College!

So this is it, the first post. The current strategy is to start posting and design the site as we go. This will work for a start, and the URL might change as we upgrade and move along. I hope that everyone will agree that first and foremost, getting the music out is priority #1.

For the first artist feature we have Shipwrek, an brilliant new producer out of San Francisco, California. He has released one album, Journal, and another is in the process of being mastered now. Give him a listen, and if you want a chance to see him live, he is performing at Colorado College on October 23.

You can listen to his entire first album here: and it is available for purchase as well. I highly recommend it, and the album art that comes with it is excellent.
