Concert Review #1: Project Aspect & PantyRaid

December 3 was an absolutely sold out night at the Boulder Theater. With a venue occupancy of around 1000, the show was an absolutely packed and wild party. Project Aspect started off the night at around 9pm, playing a fantastic all-original set and starting the show off on a more downtempo melodic note. In order to get the crowd ready for the insanity that was PantyRaid’s performance, Project Aspect worked the crowed into a wild frenzy with his increasingly crunk beats and energetic melodies. It is absolutely impossible to watch Project Aspect perform without being drawn into his presence on the stage. With seemingly the slightest of effort, he pours his heart and soul into every song, and you can always read his passion in the expression on his face. Project Aspect is no opener, if you have a chance to see him perform, take it!

PantyRaid came onstage at the perfect time for their performance. Composed of the all-star duo of Ooah (from the GlitchMob) and MartyParty, PantyRaid perfectly utilized the wild and frenetic energy raging through the crowd at the end of Project Aspect’s set. The duo had an amazing dynamic and it was clear from both their on-stage interactions as well as the quality of their set that they have great artistic chemistry. At the end of an extraordinary 2+ hour set during which multiple girls had to be “escorted” off stage and ejected as a result of their attempts to reach the energetic duo, Ooah finally announced his profound love for Boulder, Colorado, and the party of epic proportions that took place at the Boulder Theater the night of December 3.

Ben Samples: DBS 3 Year Anniversary Set

Here he is being featured yet again, the exceptionally prolific Ben Samples. Last Friday I went to the DBS 3 year anniversary event at City Hall in Denver, and Samples, the new head of the Denver Bass Squad, played an absolutely killer set during dinner. The event started off with a Potluck during which Willy Whompa and Samples set the mood of the event. Taking a break from his usual dance-floor slayers, Samples toned down his set to create the perfect eating environment. If you want to support DBS, hear some new tracks by the Legendary Ben Samples, or simply have a set to play while chilling around the house, check out the new Samples live set!

Mile High Christmas!!!!

(Flyer Courtesy Cloud-D)

I saw Project Aspect play City Hall IMPACT night last night with Salva, Ben Samples, Drop Logik, and Willy Whompa. Everyone who played was fantastic, but Project Aspect aka Jay Jaramillo absolutely stole the show. His all-original set had the emotion and intensity of live instrumentation and the energy and hype of a veteran professional. Do NOT miss out on a chance to see Project Aspect and his Mile High Sound Movement collaborators tear it up on Christmas Night. If you are going to be in Denver for Christmas, this is the PLACE TO BE! The lineup is huge, including headliner Love and Light, as well as the Mile High Sound Movement lineup and some great local talent.

See you all there!

Mile High Sound Movement

I’ve recently featured several songs by artists participating in something that epitomizes that awesome community surrounding the Bass Movement. “The Mile High Sound Movement is a Colorado based collective of artists, musicians, and friends. We are dedicated to bringing people together for special gatherings consisting of limitless possibilities. We are extremely excited to bring you a new experience at every party, as well as a long time friendship amongst all of you great people. The Movement is more than just entertainment. It is a bond, a comradery, an opportunity to obtain a greater friendship between eachother!” – Mile High Sound Movement Facebook

MHSM (Mile High Sound Movement) is run by Jay Jaramillo (Project Aspect), Ronnie Weberg (Unlimited Gravity), Wally Behnfield, and Zach Karuzas. I haven’t had the pleasure of talking with Zach yet, but both Ronnie and Jay are extremely insightful and talented artist. All of them are doing great things for the music community, and I can’t wait to see what kind of great events and music come out of this collective project.

Support these guys, listen to their music, and come to any of the events they play it. Project Aspect and Unlimited Gravity (when he is in Colorado) play at City Hall on IMPACT nights pretty regularly. Tickets are always under 20 bucks, even on new years, and the line-ups are usually made up of great local talent. Come out and support the booming Colorado Bass Community!

Colorado New Years Eve: IMPACT Heavy-duty lineup

If you are going to be in Colorado for New Years Eve, this is where you should be. Located in Denver at 1144 Broadway, City Hall Amphitheater just announced this epic lineup for New Years. Nit Grit, NastyNasty and Freddy Todd have all already been featured on the SubSynthesis and the rest are a whole mix of great local artists. I can personally attest to both Nit Grit and NastyNasty being amazing live performers, and I have heard that Freddy Todd absolutely destroys crowds. Impact New Years is by far the best and heaviest lineup scheduled; the only exception being if you live in Fort Collins, it could definitely be worth it to check out Michal Menert instead and save yourself a drive! See you all at New Years!

Unlimited Gravity – Monumentalness

It is hard for me to properly explain just how amazing this next track by Unlimited Gravity (Ronnie Weberg) actually is. I said yesterday that Project Aspect had defined a new sub-genre, the Glitch-Epic. If Project Aspect helped to define it, Unlimited Gravity is taking it to a whole new level with this latest release. The new track, aptly titled “Monumentalness”, is absolutely monumental in what it tries to accomplish. These two artists, partners in Colorado’s Mile High Sound Movement, are trying to break the mold of formulaic dance tracks and show what it really means to tell a story with your music.

Up until now so much of Glitch has been made exclusively for the dance floor. People want to play dance-tracks and bangers on the dance floor, so producers follow the formula for making a good banger. Mile High Sound Movement is all about breaking this mold. No one likes a storyteller because he tells the same story REALLY well, over and over into monotony. People like a storyteller because he is good at telling a story that others can relate to, no matter what that story is.

Unlimited Gravity is that storyteller. No matter what it is he is trying to express, it comes across distinctly and clearly in his brilliant composition. Give his latest track a listen and support these guys in their endeavors, they deserve all the attention we can give them!

As a special gift to you all, Ronnie wants you to enjoy this latest track on him. Swing over to the Unlimited Gravity SoundCloud now and check it out….it’s as monumental as the title suggests:

Be sure to check out the other Unlimited Gravity Feature here on SubSynthesis as well!

Hope you all enjoy as much as I did!
